Many regulators have a single focus: to regulate professions in the public interest; however, some continue to have dual regulatory and professional association mandates. The panel explores how regulatory and association mandates differ; the grey areas in between; and the impact when serving the public interest.

January 2023 Virtual Discussion: Enhancing the Public Interest While Avoiding Dysfunction: Public Members and Regulation of the Professions

The panel explores changes to public member involvement in their professions and whether those changes have had a measurable impact on regulation. In order for increased public participation in regulation to be beneficial, regulators need to orient and train both the public and the registrant members of their councils and committees to work collaboratively in the public interest. This session describes stumbling blocks to effective co-regulation with public member representatives and how to overcome them.

March 2022 Virtual Discussion: Fireside Chat with Dr. Jane Ngobia

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, CNAR is extremely pleased to present Dr. Jane Ngobia Ph.D., Vice President, Inclusive Communities at Sheridan College. Dr. Ngobia has held progressive leadership positions spanning more than 15 years locally and abroad within the post-secondary sector. Jane is described as a DEI coach, community builder and empathetic change agent. In April 2021, she was  recognized by The Globe and Mail as a recipient of the 2021 Best Executive Award for her work in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at Sheridan and beyond. Over the years, she has served as a Chief Diversity Officer where she launched and overseen pan-institutional initiatives to facilitate systemic and institutional equity. Jane’s passionate pursuit of an equitably shared world has moved her to extend her personal and professional capital towards fostering a culture of care and justice for all.
